Locally, there is a profusion of lakes and lagoons, including Little Pine Lagoon, Penstock Lagoon, Arthurs Lake as well the largest freshwater lake in Australia, the Great Lake. The trout fishing in Great Lake itself is renowned for its summer hatches and wind lane activity, and it is always a treat to find hungry speckled brown trout greedily dining on the carpet of midge pupa on the water. The Great Lake region attracts lure, bait and fly-casting visitors from across the country and around the world. For people not interested in unlocking its secrets with fishing, the region is also ideal for bushwalking.
There are many opportunities for boat fishing on the Great Lake, including wind lane fishing and polaroiding.
